The College Board does not publish cut scores. These are estimates reconstructed from released exams and the published 2025 distribution; the real curve moves a few points each year. Weights follow the College Board exam page for May 2027.

All AP exams

AP European History shares its exam design with the other two AP histories: 55 multiple-choice questions, three short answers, a DBQ and a long essay, weighted 40-20-25-15. The content runs from 1450 to 2001, and unlike APUSH the DBQ can draw on that whole span.

With 86,729 students in May 2025 it is a much smaller exam than APUSH or World, and its score distribution is slightly kinder than either: 72.6 % scored a 3 or higher, with the 4 as the most common score.

How the AP Euro exam is built

Section I, Part A: Multiple choice55 questions · 40 %
Sets of 3 to 4 questions on texts, interpretations, images, graphs and maps. (55 minutes)
Section I, Part B: Short answer3 questions · 20 %
Required. A secondary text, a primary text and a non-text source, each from a different period between 1450 and 2001. (40 minutes)
Section II: Document-based question1 question · 25 %
Seven documents on a development between 1450 and 2001. (60 minutes recommended, including a 15-minute reading period)
Section II: Long essay1 question · 15 %
A broad prompt spanning about half of the course's periods. (40 minutes recommended)

The College Board page for the May 2027 exam lists the same four parts and the same weights as the two other AP history exams. The one structural difference from APUSH is the DBQ's date range: 1450 to 2001 here, 1754 to 1980 there. Expect a Euro DBQ on the Reformation or on the Cold War's end; neither era is possible on the APUSH DBQ.

Section II is a single block of 1 hour 40 minutes. The DBQ's 15-minute reading period is inside that block, not added to it.

Worked AP Euro examples

38/55, 6/9, 4/7, 4/6
27.6 + 13.3 + 14.3 + 10.0 = 65.3, an estimated 4. A 5 at 68 needs 2.7 more composite points: one DBQ point is worth 3.6, so one more point on the DBQ would do it.
25/55, 4/9, 3/7, 2/6
18.2 + 8.9 + 10.7 + 5.0 = 42.8, a 3 by less than a point. Half marks on the multiple choice with weak essays sits right on the passing line.

How AP Euro scores were distributed

The 2025 Euro distribution is close to APUSH's: 14.0 % at 5 against 14.2 %, 34.8 % at 4 against 36.2 %, and a 3-or-higher rate of 72.6 % against 73.7 %. The mean score, 3.27, has drifted up from 3.23 in 2024.

Where Euro differs is the bottom of the scale. Only 8.4 % of students scored a 1, which is lower than World History (9.2 %) and close to APUSH (8.0 %). Because the three history exams share a question design, those comparisons say more about who enrols than about the paper.

What a AP Euro score is worth for credit

As with APUSH, Florida's two-course credit starts at a 4 and a 3 gives only general credit. Texas and Washington both award credit from a 3, with Washington substituting a different course at 4 and above.

Read from each university's own credit page on 10 Oct 2026: University of Florida, Exam Credit (undergraduate catalog); University of Texas at Austin, Student Testing Services, credit by exam; University of Washington, Advanced Placement exams for credit. How the AP Euro curve on this sheet is estimated

The cutoffs printed under the sheet, 68 % for a 5 and 55 % for a 4, sit two points below the APUSH estimates. That reflects the slightly higher 3-or-higher rate and the same reader-scored rubrics: 3 points per short answer, 7 for the DBQ and 6 for the long essay. The College Board does not publish Euro cut scores, so these are reconstructed, and the real boundaries move a few composite points each year. Treat anything within three points of a line as either score.
