A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 … F = 0. Weighted adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, never for an F. Schools differ; check yours.

Worked examples

A in AP, B+ in honors, A− and B regular: Unweighted (4.0 + 3.3 + 3.7 + 3.0) ÷ 4 = 3.50. Weighted (5.0 + 3.8 + 3.7 + 3.0) ÷ 4 = 3.88.

How it is calculated

Each grade converts to points (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 … F = 0), multiplied by credits, summed, and divided by total credits. Weighted GPA adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB before multiplying, never for an F.
