What you need

Raw per section to reach the target with equal section scores. Source: College Board Bluebook practice tests (digital SAT), upper second module; forms vary by ±20–30 points.

Write the number you got right in each section. The sheet converts them with the digital SAT practice-test tables, adds the total, circles it and prints the percentile. The digital SAT is adaptive: the tables here assume you reached the harder second module, which is what any score above about 600 per section implies.

Worked examples

44/54 and 34/44
Reading and Writing 670, Math 670: total 1340, about the 92nd percentile.
What you need for a 1400
About 48 right in Reading and Writing and 38 in Math, if the sections are balanced. Trade one for the other: 51/54 and 35/44 also lands near 1400.
Perfect Math, average Reading
44/44 Math is 800; 30/54 Reading and Writing is about 530: total 1330.

How it is calculated

Each section's raw is mapped through a raw-to-scaled conversion table (200–800). The two scaled scores add to the total (400–1600). Tables come from the College Board's Bluebook practice tests; every real form differs slightly, so treat a result as ±20–30 points.

Questions people ask

How many questions can I miss for a 1500?
Roughly 4 in Reading and Writing and 3 in Math on the practice-test tables, assuming you reached the harder second modules.
Is 1200 a good SAT score?
About the 78th percentile. It clears most state universities' middle ranges; selective colleges usually see 1400 and up.
Does the digital SAT penalise guessing?
No. Answer everything.
What is the easier second module?
If your first module score is low, the test gives you an easier second module, which caps the section around 600. The calculator assumes the harder module.
